Katadyn Carbon Cartridge

The Kataydn Pocket can produce “off-tasting” water, depending upon your water source, caused by chemical contaminants from the water flowing through the ceramic filter.

You can reduce this taste by running your treated water through the Katadyn Carbon Cartridge.

Katadyn Micropur MP1 Water Purification Tablets

Some people choose to filter their water through the Katadyn Pocket, and then, in areas of high human or animal traffic, additionally sterilize that water with tablets.  Alternatively, for clear water (cloudy water must be filtered first) you may be able to use Katadyn Micropur MP1 Water Purification Tablets as an alternative to pumping.

Sterilization is as easy as dropping a tablet into the water and waiting 30 minutes to 2 hours.  These tablets have a shelf-life of about 4 years.

Katadyn Pocket Replacement Element

The Katadyn Pocket is good for about 13,000 gallons.  After that, you will need to replace the ceramic filter (at which point, you should be good for another 13,000 gallons).  One element should work for a single user for about 35 years.

Helpfully, the Katadyn Pocket comes with a gauge that indicates when the element needs changing, so there is no need to buy this up-front.
